Getting to know WSRT

WSRT is the peak independent body celebrating, facilitating and advocating for females in sport and active recreation in Tasmania.

Our focus is on driving cultural change and pushing for opportunities to ensure sport and recreation is inclusive so that all Tasmanian females can fulfill their potential.

This means all ages, demographics and areas of interest, whether elite sport, club competition, social tournaments or engaging in classes, walking for exercise or individual physical activity.

Our own history and experience, along with evidenced based research for countless studies,  shows that participation in sport and active recreation will also bring lasting health, social and economic benefits across the Tasmanian community.

Who are we?

WSRT is comprised of a voluntary Board, and importantly our Program Manager, Leez Robertson, who manages the Get Active Program.  GAP delivers 20 programs each year in locations all around Tasmania. Leez also contributes to furthering opportunities for women and girls in physical activity, sport, health and wellbeing.

What’s on our To Do list right now?

Like many organisations, our profile went a little quiet during the height of COVID in Tasmania.

In 2023 we took the opportunity to have an in-depth look at our strategy and priorities, where we had come from, and where we needed to be heading in order to support, empower and champion women and girls in sport and active recreation.
A new three-year strategy was introduced in late 2023 and is now in progress.  Our current focus includes:

•    Reviewing our membership framework: our membership strategy is focused on bringing together organisations and individuals involved with women and girls’ sports to create a network for sharing information and resources, leveraging support for common goals, and providing a strong and more powerful voice for issues impacting women and girls sport and recreation.

•    Actively celebrating the success and involvement of Tasmanian females in sport: we will celebrate the success of participants, coaches, officials, volunteers and administrators, and promote the benefits and opportunities of their involvement with a view to inspiring and encouraging girls and women of all ages to include physical activity and recreation in their everyday lives.

•    Contribute to levelling up the playing field for participants, athletes, coaches and administrators including voluntary board and committee members.

•    Further grow the reach and impact of our award-winning Get Active Program which is delivered around Tasmania and this year is marking 20 years since it was established.

It’s a big list for a small organisation however our enthusiasm, drive and commitment ensures we are more than up for the challenge.  And we invite you to come along with us and be part of our journey.
