Tasmanian School Girls' Breakfast 2015 - No Barriers

Womensport & Recreation Tas was delighted to host the 2015 School Girls' Breakfast in Launceston on Friday 23rd October at the Aurora Function Centre, Aurora Stadium, Launceston.

The Breakfast was a wonderful community event dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of women and girls in sport, raising and discussing issues and challenges, and sharing stories, experiences and achievements.

Girls aged 12-16 years were invited to attend along with a supportive parent, coach, mentor or friend for a shared learning experience.

The Breakfast was the perfect way to complement existing school leadership development programs, providing students with an opportunity to meet some of our sporting greats as they shared their experience and insights into how sport supports girls to reach their full potential.

The event showcased different sports, helped students and schools to make contacts in the state sporting networks, and provided an opportunity to inspire, encourage and support more girls to start, and keep playing sport through positive role modelling. The Breakfast was also an important opportunity to showcase career pathways, in the sport and recreation sector, to support future leaders who may one day influence, manage, coach and mentor others.

The Breakfast explored the following themes and topics:
  • Developing leadership potential and strategies for achieving success.

  • Rising to meet challenges and developing resilience.

  • Personal empowerment and motivation.

  • The importance of positive role models, mentoring and coaching.

  • Creating a positive relationship with physical activity.

  • Challenging gender stereotypes.

  • Career pathways and opportunities.
